New Visiting Researcher at MOBILE - Stein Arne Brekke
Stein Arne Brekke is a PhD researcher in political science at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. His research revolves around the political power and legitimacy of international courts in general and the Court of Justice of the European Union specifically. Stein Arne holds a master's degree in political science from the University of Oslo, and an LLM from the European University Institute. He is an alumni of the PluriCourts Centre for the Study of the Legitimate Roles of the Judiciary in the Global Order at the University of Oslo, and a project manager of the IUROPA Project in which he helps maintain a database on the decisions and decision-makers of the Court of Justice.
Stein Arne is associated with the Judging Under the Influence project under the leadership of professor Urška Šadl, in which he works to bridge the gap between data management, empirical legal studies, and political science. The project revisits the influence of the Court of Justice through uniquely detailed hand-coded data on the decisions of the Court. At MOBILE, Stein Arne will not only study the decision-making of the Court directly through the analysis of these data, but also develop interactive tools to make such empirical analysis accessible for a broader audience of legal researchers.
