New Visiting Researcher at MOBILE - Jonna Petterson

Jonna Pettersson is a Research Associate at the Department of Global Political Studies at Malmö University. She is also an affiliated member of the Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare  and part of The Rethinking Democracy research platform at Malmö University.

Previously, she has worked as a senior lecturer in political science, political theory, international relations and human rights at Lund University, University of Copenhagen, and Malmö University. Between 2021 and 2023 she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Global Political Studies at Malmö University and a visiting fellow to the Faculty of Law, Tilburg University (2023).

Pettersson is a political theorist who conducts research in the intersection between political theory, legal philosophy, political geography and global political thought. She specializes in research on the political community, democratic theory, political and legal spatiality, territoriality, identity and inclusion. Her current research centers on practices of externalized migration control, territoriality, and relational space. She has also published on civic integration, collective selfhood, and reflexive identity.

Pettersson is the author of The Question of Political Community – Sameness, Logos, Space, published with Rowman and Littlefield (2019).
