New Visiting Researcher at MOBILE - Keyvan Dorostkar
Keyvan Dorostkar is a PhD candidate at the Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. His PhD examines the role of time and timeliness in Australia’s refugee status determination procedures through statistical methods. Keyvan’s research draws on a rich dataset of over 200,000 decisions and 4 million individual observations on individual cases going through the RSD process in Australia. By tracing the lifecycle of refugee applications across the entire process, he seeks to identify systemic issues and opportunities for reform, with the broader goal of enhancing the timeliness of refugee decision-making.
Beyond the PhD, Keyvan is actively involved in interdisciplinary projects at the Kaldor Centre Data Lab, an initiative established in 2022 to publish and analyse data on Australia’s refugee determination systems. He is also part of the international working group of refugee experts, academics, humanitarians and international lawyers that have recently released a draft Independent Declaration on the Right of Refugees and Others Experiencing Displacement or Statelessness to Participate in Decisions that Affect Them.
