New Visiting Researcher at MOBILE - Tehseen Jäger

Tehseen is a second-year PhD student at the Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies (SCEUS), exploring the intricate dynamics between immigration policies and access to the labour market. His doctoral research, “Precarious and Substandard Employment of Third-Country Nationals in EU Member States - At the Crossroads between Migration Control and Protecting Migrants,” seeks to illuminate factors that contribute to the labour exploitation of immigrants in the EU.

He is currently exploring several research questions, including how the entanglement of mobility regimes and labour market access influences immigrants at risk of exploitation. In this context, he examines the long-term impacts of the 2009 Employer Sanctions Directive, which aims to protect and control immigration simultaneously. Additionally, he investigates member states' visa practices regarding the posting of third-country nationals, which govern access to their labour markets but appear to conflict with EU mobility regimes. Furthermore, he examines the labour market effects of policies that regulate immigration by restricting access to welfare. His work engages with diverse debates in migration and EU studies, adopting perspectives from both political science and economics.

Tehseen earned his MA and BA from the University of Münster, where he pursued programmes in political science and economics, marked by a keen interest in immigration, social politics, and European Union politics.
